On the 26th of June 2020, the Joint Science Conference (Gemeinsamen Wissenschaftskonferenz GWK) decided the call for tender for funding within the framework of the establishment of a National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). The consortium NFDI4Ing consists of the RWTH Aachen University, TU Braunschweig, Technical University of Darmstadt, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Forschungszentrum Jülich, University of Stuttgart, Technical University of Munich and the TIB Hannover.

The aim is to create the required infrastructures for the ongoing development of engineering disciplines, to promote networking processes and to effectively support cooperation with industry in the context of Industry 4.0.

Last October, the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft DFG) received 22 applications for funding for consortia in the context of establishing a NFDI. The recommendation for funding the NFDI4Ing measure was already submitted in May 2020 and has now been approved to the great pleasure of all participants. Prof. Robert Schmitt from the WZL is the spokesman of the consortium.
