Research Data Managegement
Research Data Management (RDM) is a necessary element of the IoP infrastructure and therefore the subject of our research in CRD-A. In addition, the Scientific Cooperation Portal based on open source software already supports internal communication and coordination in the previous CoE as a tool for practical research data management. The portal was adapted and expanded with CoE-specific functions and automated workflows - for example to monitor relevant performance indicators. This enables us to integrate additional workflows for knowledge and data management.
In order to further improve support for collaboration and data management within the CoE, we will improve the existing portal in two ways: by linking additional storage systems and integrating a persistent identifier system (PID). All of these services are already available from central RWTH providers and thus enable the integration of CoE workflows into existing infrastructures. We will link a storage system to the portal so that researchers can save their data centrally. Access to the data can be restricted to certain groups or individual researchers. We will also establish a connection to the RWTH archive, which makes it easy to move data from the collaboration platform to the long-term archive. Data within the portal are documented and can be found via metadata, as has already been done for text publications.
We will integrate the PID of the European Persistent Identifier Consortium (EPIC) used at RWTH into the portal. For each publication, the link to the associated research data is created using these PIDs. A DOI is used for published data and an EPIC ID for archived data. Data that - for technical or legal reasons - is stored on separate systems can be displayed and linked by a PID in the portal so that it can be found by other researchers. Because researchers are concerned about who is accessing their data, data sets can be linked and identified throughout the research process.
