Within the coming years the IoP will face major challenges - especially in connection with disruptive changes due to new technologies or digitization in all areas of society. Future breakthroughs, for example in network technologies (5G networks) or computing power (quantum computers), will grant new alternative approaches to achieve our overall goals, which in turn also promise enormous opportunities. We are therefore pursuing an agile research management approach that enables us to continuously adapt and further develop our planned approach. The IoP approach is based on a management that focuses on generating scientific value instead of preventing breakthroughs and efficiency within structures.

For this purpose, the success of the defined work program is continuously checked on, including the extent to which the content of the program and the structures should be adjusted in order to consistently pursue the vision of the IoP. With this approach, the prioritization of the work steps in the research areas is always aligned with the overall goals. Already established, highly effective management structures of the cluster are constantly in development and additional measures are implemented to strengthen interdisciplinary cooperation. The management structure of the IoP builds on the successfully installed and established structure of the past cluster.

Management consists of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the spokesman for the Cluster of Excellence, the Chief Operational Officer (COO), responsible for the operational management of the CoE, and the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The main goal of operational cluster management is the comprehensive scientific coordination of the IoP and its sustainable personal, scientific and structural development. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for scientific, technical, financial, legal and administrative coordination. The CEO serves as the representative of the CoE for national and international symposia and research initiatives and is supported by the Chief Operational Officer (COO), who is responsible for operational CoE management.

Scientific coordination includes the organization of all conferences and colloquia, including Consisting of the semi-annual CoE conferences, the semi-annual general meetings, the quarterly board meetings of the Steering Committee or the biennial meetings of the Scientific Advisory Board or the annual meetings of the Industrial Advisory Board.
