RWTH Aachen University and the Cluster of Excellence see equal opportunities as an important part of a balanced and innovative research and teaching culture. Bringing together talented researchers, lecturers and students and enabling them to develop their full potential together, free of discrimination and restrictions based on gender, socio-economic or cultural background, is highly important to us.
We promote an open and diversity-friendly work environment in which teams work interculturally and interdisciplinarily, using individual strengths and perspectives to develop new strategies and ideas.
Equal treatment and non-discrimination must have top priority in the composition of a modern research community. Teaching and learning environments also benefit from a balanced composition of those working together in order to optimally use the talents of the individual employee and allowing room for personal and interpersonal development.
The teaching and research community must reflect society and create structures enabling fair cooperation. At RWTH and in the Cluster of Excellence alike, equal treatment and non-discrimination are implemented through the active communication of guidelines for protection against discrimination and further training offers such as coaching and seminars which are made accessible for employees.
The Vice-Rector for Human Resources Management and Development and the Equal Opportunity Officer in cooperation with the Rectorate Office “Integration Team – Human Resources, Gender and Diversity Management” (IGaD), take care of strengthening gender and diversity at the university. Offers for coaching in particular are provided in order to ensure cultural change. For this purpose, trainings are offered for teachers and staff as well as students. These trainings mainly focus on unconscious / implicit bias, diversity-sensitive recruitment and appointment procedures as well as communication in multicultural teams.
