Fraunhofer ILT presented the multi-spot processing system, a completely new SLM system concept at the Euromold 2014 in Frankfurt from November 25 to 28
At the Fraunhofer ILT a new system concept is developed, constructed and built with the means of the Cluster of Excellence “Integrative Production Technology for High-Wage Countries”. The scientists from Aachen completely avoid scanner systems and instead use a print head with several individually controllable diode lasers, which are moved with linear axles. The advantage of this multi-spot processing is that the built-up rate of the system can be significantly increased by an almost arbitrary rising of the beam source number. An adjustment of the plant dimensioning, the control software for the exposure and the processing parameters is not required. The new system concept also enables to realize a space magnification through greater travel of the axis system without changing the optical system. In addition, the processing head has a local inert gas system to ensure a constant shielding gas stream at each processing plant for spaces of any size. This is essential for a position-independent and reproducible component quality. The concept also offers the possibility to carry along systems for process control, which simplifies its design compared to existing coaxial systems.
