ICPS2021 - Conference on Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems


This year's 4th ICEE Conference on Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems took place on May 10-12, consiting of a virtual meeting this time. Aleksandra Müller was there with exciting cluster topics, checking in from her home office instead of being present in Canada, as intended. As a research assistant at the Chair for Machine Tools, she deals with automation technology and the industrial application of digital shadow technologies. The ICPS offers an international specialist forum for scientific exchange and brings together researchers with expertise in the fields of cyber-physical systems, the Internet of Things and the digital economy every year. In their contribution "Gaining lloT insights by leveraging ontology based modeling of raw data and digital shadows", Müller and colleagues focused on the real-world application of the modeling techniques they researched and the possibilities of using the digital shadow in a glass manufacturing company.

Hello Aleksandra. Hopefully the research community will soon be able to take slow steps towards physical meetings again, but for now we have to be content with virtual conferences. The ICPS2021 also took place virtually. Aleksandra Müller gave us a little review on it:

The conference was exciting and there were nice lectures, some of them were very interesting for me, especially in the context of the IoP. Unfortunately, there was no communication with the other conference participants. This was due, among other things, to the large time difference to some researchers and basically to the concept of this online format. Nevertheless, the current mode of the conferences is of course better than not being able to exchange ideas.


How can one summarize the results of your contribution?

Technologies of the digital shadow, which is assumed to be the basis for the IoP, were tested in real industrial conditions. With the help of ontologies and digital shadows, a better traceability of the production data could be achieved. The relevance of the contribution is in particular the (initial) validation of the use of ontologies and the digital shadow for real industrial issues.
