Human-Computer-Interaction International 2018 in Las Vegas
Cluster-scientist Dr. André Calero Valdez from the chair of Communication Science visited the Human-Computer-Interaction (HCI) International Conference 2018 in Las Vegas, USA, from July 15 to 20. The main focus of the HCI is on the application of human-computer interaction and covers a wide range of applications of this topic. With over 1500 participants, the conference is one of the largest in the field of human-computer interaction.
As part of the HCI, Calero Valdez participated in the sub-conference "Digital-Human Modeling" and
organized a parallel session dealing with the modeling of the human factor in socio-technical systems with regard to integration of artificial intelligence. His submitted article „Human Factors in the Age of Algorithms. Understanding the Human-in-the-loop Using Agent-based Modeling“ from the research areas Scientific Cooperation Engineering and Self-optimizing Production Networks of the Cluster of Excellence deals with methods of agent-based modeling. In the interaction of human and algorithms, it is becoming more and more urgent to understand the human facet
better with its diversity with the help of simulation processes. This article is a review of the methods of agent-based modeling and provides modeling decisions for the joint modeling of humans and algorithms in complex socio-technical
systems and thus addresses a central issue of the newly approved Cluster of Excellence "Internet of Production", which will start in January 2019.
André Calero Valdez gives a positive summary of the conference visit: "The focus of the conference is on the exchange of current work and provides an excellent opportunity to talk with many colleagues about current research topics”. A personal highlight for him was the presentation of the work of his junior research group "Digitale Mündigkeit" whose group leader he is and which deals with the exciting question of how the opinion-forming process in social media can be described, modeled and predicted in the interaction between the human being, the recommendation system and social bots.
